UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon joins Minister Seán Sherlock, Donncha O’ Callaghan, Evanna Lynch and 100 young people to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals in the garden of Iveagh House.
The special event, organised by Irish Aid and the National Youth Council of Ireland, aims to raise awareness of the new Sustainable Development Goals, and encourage everyone to get involved in implementing them.
The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 internationally agreed goals to be achieved by 2030, aimed at eradicating poverty, addressing environmental degradation and climate change, and building a more peaceful, fair and sustainable world. The world’s 193 countries are due to commit to these Goals at a special UN summit of world leaders in September 2015.

The event will include a chatshow-style discussion on the new Goals with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Minister Seán Sherlock, UNICEF Ireland Ambassador Donncha O’ Callaghan, and UNICEF Ireland High Profile supporter, Evanna Lynch.
The conversation will be chaired by Newstalk presenter, Orla Barry; with the audience and those following the event on social media (through #2030Vision) given the chance to ask questions and make comments. Droichead Youth Theatre will also be sharing their vision for 2030 with a special performance commissioned for the event. The event will be closed by XOD Xtraordinary Dance.
Minister Sherlock will also be launching the UN Youth Delegate Programme for Ireland at the event, with the National Youth Council of Ireland. Irish Aid will support two young people (one male and one female) aged between 18-25 years to join Ireland’s delegation to the United Nations in New York in September/October 2015. 2015 is the first year that Ireland has participated in the programme.
