A Platform for Humanitarian Partnership

Ireland’s Rapid Response Initiative is an operational tool designed to contribute to Ireland’s overarching humanitarian goal of saving and protecting lives by addressing capacity and resource constraints in the international humanitarian system.

Under the RRI, we respond in a practical way to sudden onset, protracted and forgotten humanitarian crises by:

deploying highly-skilled personnel (a Rapid Response Corps) to work at short notice with Ireland’s UN Stand-by humanitarian partners as part of their emergency and humanitarian response efforts, and

stockpiling, pre-positioning and transporting emergency relief supplies into disaster and crisis areas from UN Humanitarian Response Depots (UNHRD) around the world.

The Rapid Response Strategy sets out the overall goal and strategic objectives of Ireland’s Rapid Response Initiative as well as how we implement the Initiative in practice and who we work with.
